I bought the mini-bow 2.5 for my crowntail betta and I could not be more pleased. The filter is very gentle and I do not believe there is any risk of danger from it for adult fish. My betta did struggle a little at first with the outflow but adapted easily after a day. The light is perfect for the aquarium and I have not noticed any unusual heat from it. I purchased a separate heater and thermometer and the temperature has remained steady. I like that the aquarium is covered but has a door that can be opened for feeding. I have one small silk plant, two medium silk plants and a faux rock formation in mine and there is still plenty of room for the fish to swim around. He seems to be quite happy in there (insofar as fish can show happiness). I will be purchasing a second mini-bow as a gift.
